City, NV) –
Governor Jim
Gibbons
today
announced
the
appointment
of Diane
Crow to the
position of
Nevada State
Public
Defender.
Crow has
served as
the interim
public
defender
since
mid-August
and served
as the
office’s
chief deputy
since 1996.
The State
Public
Defender is
charged with
providing
indigent
defense in
counties
that do not
maintain
their own
public
defender
offices.
“Ms. Crow
has
demonstrated
her
commitment
to this
important
post, and
I’m fully
confident
she will do
an excellent
job for
those
individuals
needing
defense
against
criminal
charges,”
the Governor
said.
The
appointment
runs for a
four year
term and is
effective
Monday,
Sept. 22.
“I’d like to
thank the
Governor for
having the
confidence
in me to do
this job,”
Crow said.
“Everyone is
constitutionally
entitled to
a strong
defense when
facing
criminal
charges, and
I’m
committed to
ensuring
every
Nevadan
receives
that
defense.”
Crow has
served more
than 18
years in the
State Public
Defender’s
office and
has
experience
ranging from
misdemeanor
bench trials
to complex
felony jury
trials. She
also has
experience
with
juvenile
cases and
specialty
courts.
Crow has a
B.S. in
Medical
Technology
from the
University
of Nevada,
Reno and a
J.D. from
Nevada
School of
Law.
