Governor’s statement on the death of Army Sergeant
mickel garrigus

Carson City, NV – Governor Jim Gibbons today issued this statement about the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Mickel Garrigus, who was killed in action in Operation Iraqi Freedom:

“Dawn and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Garrigus, and our hearts go out to his family.  By fighting for freedom in Iraq, he served all Nevadans and all Americans.  Nevadans owe him a debt of gratitude for his service and his sacrifice.”

Sergeant Garrigus was killed by a roadside bomb in Taji, Iraq during a combat patrol on Saturday, January 27th.  He was assigned to the 543rd Military Police Company, 91st Police Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigagade, 10th Mountain Division, based in Fort Drum, New York.  He was 24 years old.  He is survived by his wife, Natasha, and their young son, Ethan, who reside in Douglas County.
