With
national concerns over the treatment of our nation’s
veterans at VA hospitals raised by recent reports of
inadequacies at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Governor
Jim Gibbons toured Reno’s VA Hospital Friday, March 9th,
2007 to confirm that Nevada’s veterans are getting adequate
care.
VA
hospitals, under the direction of the Department of Veterans
Affairs, have not been implicated in any of the problems
brought to light at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which
is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army. However,
President Bush has ordered scrutiny of all military and
veterans health facilities in creating his Bipartisan
Presidential Commission to Conduct a Comprehensive Review of
the Services America is Providing Our Returning Wounded
Warriors.
After
completing his tour of the Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical
Center and meeting with its Director, Doctor Kurt
Schlegelmilch, M.D. and staff members, Governor Gibbons met
with reporters and praised the facility as offering
world-class medical care to Nevada's veterans.
