WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett began his career with the State of Nevada in 1974 with the division of Buildings and Grounds; and WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett became part of the Capitol Security force with Buildings and Grounds; Nevada Capitol Security became Nevada Capitol Police in 1985 when the Nevada Legislature passed Assembly bill 230, signed by Governor Bryan; and WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett as a Capitol Police Officer, served Governors Mike O’Callaghan, Robert List, Richard Bryan, Robert Miller, Kenny Guinn and present Governor Jim Gibbons; and WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett has spent all his years with Capitol Police, the last five have been at the Governor’s Mansion, where he has served with honor and distinction from where he is now retiring; and WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett’s retirement will be a huge loss to the Nevada Capitol Police and the Department of Public Safety, where he has served in excess of thirty-four years; and WHEREAS, Ken Hewlett has consistently performed without compromise and in accordance with the best practices in his field with great commitment, dedication and respect for those he served, thereby setting an example for his fellow officers and those to come later; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim December 12, 2008 as a day in honor of KEN HEWLETT |
